Stop gangs and hostile corporations from taking over and discover what really happened.” The showing at the Twitch event put more focus on loot and RPG elements to show us there are layers of depth in addition to those flashy explosions. Confusion and chaos ensue, security and order are in disarray, and without protection, everyone is left to fend for themselves. “The mega-corporation that owns you and everyone, The Ascent Group, has just collapsed. Looking like a cyberpunk Diablo with guns, the Ascent is a solo and co-op action RPG allowing up to 4 players. This year’s updated trailer was even more impressive making it one of only two games to make all of our lists. The Ascent first caught our eye during Microsoft’s show in May of last year. Let’s start with… Xbox Era’s Most Anticipated Games of Show The Ascent – Game Pass The following list is everything shown during the Twitch event with extra attention given to the Xbox Era staff’s favorites. While our opinions of the pacing and format of the Twitch show were mixed, our growing wish lists of future games was the unanimous takeaway. With this in mind, some of us at Xbox Era were able to tune into the Twitch showcase on March 26th in an attempt to be among the first to discover new hidden gems yet to have released. As their tools will be much more capable this generation than last and subscription services like Game Pass expose more gamers to their creativity, we’re optimistic for the emergence of many developers who are not yet on the tips of tongues for the vast majority of the gaming community. We believe Independent developers are vital to the industry in that they are able to push new ideas and take risks in story, art, music and game design that the bigger studios often cannot afford to. We only need to progress this co-op playthrough to the very first enemy encounter, mere minutes after starting the game, so I still consider that it requires only a single playthrough to complete the game.Īdditionally, if you just want to see the Codex Entries or Cyberdeck Upgrades and where to obtain them, I have included these in separate sections as well.We here at Xbox Era are excited about the potential of the Indie developers this generation. Although this is not necessary, I suggest doing the co-op achievements in a separate playthrough, so we don't accidentally mess up our game save for future use. So, don't worry if you don't have any friends (that play this game). Since the game supports local co-op, we will unlock these using a second controller. Two achievements are related to co-op gameplay. Mop up: After the main missions are completed we will mop up the remaining achievements. We need to fully fill the codex, so I have included where certain entries are added to the codex. Progressing the story, completing side missions, defeating enemies, and discovering new locations reward you with codex entries. All of them need to be completed, and I have tried to do these as efficiently as possible. As you progress through the story, many side missions will become available. This will be split up into sections corresponding to each main mission, excluding the last section where I grouped the last three main missions together. The main part of the walkthrough will follow the natural progression of the story. Unsurprisingly, here I will explain the basic gameplay and mechanics of the game. I will start the walkthrough with Basic information and general tips. The game plays as an isometric shooter with some lite RPG elements, like character customization and leveling up, and can either be played solo or with up to three friends in co-op. When the most powerful corporation, The Ascent Group, suddenly and mysteriously shuts down, you will need to investigate what happened while the other corporations are fighting for control. The Ascent takes place in a cyberpunk-themed dystopian world Veles, inside a metropolis run by corporations, where you and everyone else are working off their debts as indents, one cycle after another. Unfortunately, I cannot test if these issues persist for new playthroughs after the latest patch but I have not experienced any game-breaking bugs myself. Many issues in the past were related to playing the game in co-op. If you do decide to play the game, I recommend doing a full SOLO playthrough to minimize the risks of buggy achievements. While the game has received a couple of patches to fix many issues (read here for the latest patch notes), some players report that certain achievements remain buggy.
